Kenya’s National Public Health Institute aims to concentrate and strengthen public health work through increased efficiency and accountability and enhanced public health visibility. The institute brings together various public health activities to ensure the capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to disease outbreaks. Responsibilities of the institute include evaluation of population health status, disease surveillance, health research, disease investigation and control, and external partnership coordination. The Division of Disease Surveillance and Epidemic Response, the Division of National Public Health Laboratory Services, the Field Epidemiology Laboratory Training Program, and the Emergency Preparedness Response Unit are housed under the institute.
