Cape Verde is a country located in the Atlantic Ocean, about 455km from the African West coast, is an archipelago of volcanic origin, with an area of ​​4,033 Km2 and geographically, the country is composed of ten islands namely Santo Antão, São Vicente, Santa Luzia, São Nicolau, Sal, Boa Vista, Maio, Santiago, Fogo and Brava.

The Cape Verdean population is estimated, according to the Demographic Projection of CV 2010/30 of the National Statistics Institute (INE), in 537,661 inhabitants. According to the same source, in 2014, the population was 518,467, being mostly young.

According to INE's sense of mortality 2010, p. 38, the Cape Verdean average life expectancy at birth was 74.5 years for both sexes. Data from the same document shows that for women it was 79.2 years and in men ERA 69.7 years.

National Institute of Public Health of Cape VerdeThe National Institute of Public Health of Cape Verde, shortly INSP, is headquartered in Praia City, Cape Verdean Capital (Largo do Desastre de Assistência, Chã de Areia CP 719), was created on March 14, 2014, as an institution of production of factual evidence for decision-making and action organization to achieve health outcomes. Its mission is to generate, develop and disseminate scientific and technological knowledge on health and its determinants, aiming at strengthening public policies and improving the National Health System in a context of multi sectoriality and multidisciplinary.

INSP is a public institute, integrated in the indirect administration of the Cape Verdean State, as a personalized service, with administrative, financial, patrimonial, scientific and technical autonomy, with the structure, organization and attributions defined in the respective statute. The Institute has 6 Strategic Axes of intervention, namely:

1. Research;

2. Training;

3. National Public Health Laboratory;

4. National Observatory of Health and Health Surveillance;

5. Information, Communication and Social Participation - Health Promotion;

6. Institutional Management and Development.

In order to pursue its tasks, INSP is organized in different technical-scientific departments, namely research, health surveillance, laboratory, training and information, communication and public health services.   The organs of this institute are:
